Basic Treatments

Hardening And Tempering

Vacuum Hardening heat treatment in vacuum

Generally applicable for products that require special technical attention, from simple massive parts to highest complexity tooling.

Technical specification

Parts up to 3000 kg and dimension up to 1200 x 1000 x 1800 mm; maximum treatment temperature 1250°C.

Select a vacuum hardening process:

  • VAC 1

VACUUM 1 Cost-effective heat treatment in vacuum

  • VAC 2

VACUUM 2 Cost-effective heat treatment in vacuum; heavy products

VACUUM STD General heat-treatment in vacuum; tooling and machine parts

VACUUM STS Special heat treatment in vacuum; complex-geometry tooling and demanding parts

VACUUM ISQ Heat treatment in vacuum according to ISO-Quench procedure

VACUUM HSS Heat treatment in vacuum; HSS steel

Oil Hardening heat treatment in oil

Machined parts, mass production parts, and other carbon steel, low alloy and case hardening steel parts.

Technical specification

Parts up to 1500 kg and dimension up to 900 x 900 x 1200 mm; maximum treatment temperture 1050°C.

Select an oil hardening process:

  • NT

Neutral hardening heat treatment comprising austenitising, oil quenching, and tempering

  • DB

Double hardening heat treatment comprising of two hardening processes

Tempering Improvement of hardness to toughness ratio of hardened parts

Normally performed after hardening, carburizing and carbonitriding, as well as in combination with sub zero and cryogenic treatments.

Material properties tailored to desired application; normally to reach desired hardness. Improvement of internal-stress homogeneity; improvement of ductility; surface hardness equalization; and increase of hardness in case of secondary hardening.

Technical specification

To develop tempered microstructure after hardening, the components are reheated to specific temperature bellow Ac1. Tempering temperature and time depend on type of steel and its geometry. Usually more than one tempering treatment is required to obtain desired properties.
